Last year, Verstappen produced one of the most remarkable resurrections in recent memory, finishing on the podium in every single race after the summer pause. That surge ultimately kept his title hopes alive until the final rounds. But the Dutchman is quick to dampen any expectations of a similar miracle this time around.
“Last season was exceptional, but we cannot simply assume that will happen again,” Verstappen said, reflecting on the current situation. “The car is in a different place compared to last year, and the competition has moved forward. We have to be realistic about our chances.”

Kimi Antonelli has been the standout performer of 2026, winning multiple races and finishing on the podium with remarkable consistency. The young Italian has silenced any doubts about his ability to lead a title charge, and his gap at the top of the standings reflects his dominance.
For Verstappen, the challenge is not just about matching Antonelli’s pace but also about maximising every opportunity. “We need to be perfect in every session, every lap,” he said. “There is no room for mistakes anymore. We have to extract everything from the package we have.”
