Ducati general manager Gigi Dall’Igna has vowed to “try with all my strength” to help Pecco Bagnaia rediscover his lost MotoGP form and “be the champion that he is.”
The reigning double world champion has endured a difficult 2025 season, which has plunged to new lows in recent weeks. After a tough Hungarian Grand Prix, Bagnaia’s Catalan weekend proved even worse, with the Italian qualifying only 21st and finishing 14th in the sprint, a full second off Marc Marquez’s pace.
Hoping that a radical set-up change introduced in Hungary would turn his fortunes around in Barcelona, Bagnaia admitted he no longer knows what more he can do to improve. Ducati team boss Davide Tardozzi even remarked that “we need Pecco to help us to help him.”
But following Marquez’s sprint victory, which also sealed Ducati’s sixth consecutive constructors’ title, Dall’Igna offered his full support to his struggling star.
“Difficult is a bad word,” he told Sky Italy.
“Difficult means someone can’t take it anymore and throws in the towel. Honestly, I’m not the type to throw in the towel. Even though we haven’t succeeded so far — and in fact, we may even have gotten worse compared to the start of the season — I will try with all my strength to help Pecco find a way to regain his feeling with the bike and return to being the champion that he is.”
Asked what solutions he could provide, Dall’Igna admitted: “That’s a complicated question. If I had an answer, we’d have done better today. Unfortunately, there’s no magic formula here. We need to objectively evaluate what’s been done so far and find something different. But it all starts with believing in Pecco, and him believing in us. I’m sure sooner or later we will find the solution.”
Much debate has centered on whether Ducati’s GP25 is the real issue, but Dall’Igna dismissed that idea. Instead, he credited Marquez’s success this season to the Spaniard’s growing confidence in the machine.
“In my opinion, it’s more about the confidence you have in the bike, which makes the difference. Marc has been strong since the start of the year, and his confidence grows race by race. The other two struggled, especially early in the season, and they still need to find that confidence. That makes them suffer a bit more, especially in the early sessions.”
