Marc Marquez turned disaster into dominance at Misano, using the sting of his sprint crash as fuel to deliver a fiery redemption in the San Marino Grand Prix.
The factory Ducati rider went head-to-head with Marco Bezzecchi in a relentless duel, ultimately sealing his 11th victory of the season by just half a second — a win that edges him closer to his seventh premier-class crown.
But this wasn’t a smooth weekend. On Saturday, Marquez had crashed out at Turn 15 just moments after snatching the lead, ending both his streak of eight straight sprint wins and his perfect record of finishing inside the top two in every short-format race of 2025.
While he shrugged it off at first, citing his huge championship cushion, Marquez admitted the crash lit a fire inside him.
“It was one of the toughest races of the season, of course. Marco was a super tough opponent. Congrats to him because even though I was faster than ever in the last laps, he was even replying in a very good way. But today I had a special fire inside of me after yesterday’s mistake. I always try to reply in the best way possible and the best reply was to try to win the race.”
From warm-up, he said, his concentration sharpened and his energy surged. But Bezzecchi wasn’t backing down — and Marquez had to push harder than ever.
“Both of us were pushing more than usual, but it was his home GP and he had extra motivation, and I had the extra motivation from yesterday’s crash,” Marquez explained.
The decisive moment came on lap 12 when Bezzecchi ran wide at Turn 8, handing Marquez the opening he needed. Unlike many of his other victories, however, he couldn’t escape at the front. Bezzecchi stayed glued to his rear wheel, trading fastest laps until the final corner.
Marquez’s margin at the flag? Just over half a second.
The 32-year-old admitted he had more than one battle on his hands — not only Bezzecchi, but also the risk of a long-lap penalty after straying onto track limits four times.
“Behind Marco, I already understood that today he was riding well. I was there, not far. I had a bit more speed in the first part, but he was defending Turn 6 and braking later at Turn 8. In the middle of the race, I made three mistakes in a row at Turn 11, touched the green three times, then another time — four warnings. At a fifth I would have a long lap, so I was extra careful on the greens. But even like this I was riding in a good way.”
