Authorities have charged a Georgia man with burglarizing the North Carolina home of former NASCAR driver Greg Biffle, an incident that occurred in the aftermath of a fatal plane crash on the property. The investigation into the crash itself remains ongoing, according to officials.
Iredell County Sheriff Darren Campbell announced that Terrell Williams, 44, of Georgia, faces a slew of felony charges, including second-degree burglary, safe cracking, money laundering, obtaining property by false pretense, possession of burglary tools, and larceny, among others. Williams is currently being held without bond in Cobb County, Georgia, on suspicion of a completely different offense, Sheriff Campbell said.
Details of the Burglary
The burglary is believed to have taken place after a small plane crashed near Biffle’s property in Mooresville, North Carolina, on August 16. The crash claimed the life of the pilot, whose identity has not yet been released pending notification of family. The plane went down in a wooded area adjacent to Biffle’s residence, drawing emergency responders and law enforcement to the scene.
According to Sheriff Campbell, while first responders were occupied with the crash site, Williams allegedly took advantage of the situation to break into Biffle’s home. The suspect reportedly forced entry and made off with several valuable items, including cash and personal property. Investigators later recovered some of the stolen goods during a search of Williams’s vehicle.
“This individual saw an opportunity in the chaos of a tragic event and allegedly used it to commit a crime,” Sheriff Campbell said in a statement. “Thanks to the quick work of our deputies and the assistance of other agencies, we were able to identify and charge him.”

The plane crash itself remains under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). Preliminary reports indicate that the single-engine aircraft experienced mechanical difficulties shortly after takeoff from a nearby airport. The pilot attempted an emergency landing but struck trees before crashing.
Greg Biffle, who has not commented publicly on the incident, is a well-known figure in NASCAR, having competed in the Cup Series for over a decade. He won 19 Cup races and was the 2002 Craftsman Truck Series champion. His home in Mooresville is in the heart of NASCAR country, where many drivers reside.
