Marc Marquez’s impact on MotoGP is now “unquestionable” — and even his rivals are comfortable with that reality.

That is the verdict of Chicho Lorenzo, father of three-time MotoGP world champion Jorge Lorenzo, who believes Marquez’s crushing 2025 season has reshaped the sport’s global significance.

At 32 years old, Marquez became the oldest premier-class champion of the modern era, delivering a devastating campaign with Ducati that featured 11 grand prix wins and 14 sprint victories.

It was his seventh MotoGP crown and ninth world title overall, drawing him level with Valentino Rossi — and completing one of the most remarkable comebacks in sporting history after his career-threatening arm injury in 2020.

Marquez’s domination transcended the MotoGP paddock. His season attracted unprecedented international attention and coincided with the championship’s best-ever year for trackside attendance.

Speaking to Mundo Deportivo, Chicho Lorenzo — himself a respected rider coach — made clear just how pivotal Marquez has become.

“The importance of Marc Marquez in the sport today is unquestionable; everything revolves around him,” he said.

“Even his rivals are comfortable with Marc winning again with such superiority because of the anticipation he generates — even among people who don’t usually follow MotoGP.

“It has made MotoGP more important globally. It has drawn more attention, and more sponsors are eager to enter the circus.”

Lorenzo senior also highlighted what makes Marquez technically unique.

“On a technical level, Marquez is impossible to classify. He’s not refined, repetitive or robotic like Dani Pedrosa or Jorge Lorenzo. His creativity has no limits, and he always finds a way to set incredible lap times.

“He enjoys playing with the limits — something many riders hate.

“When you add his work ethic and intelligence, the result is a rider who isn’t just defining an era, but setting the highest bar in the history of the sport.

“I only hope fans truly appreciate and enjoy him — because one day, he will be missed.”
