MOTOGP TEST: Pramac Yamaha’s Moto2 commitment has paid off, with Izan Guevara securing his first ride on a factory YZR-M1 after fulfilling a promise from team principal Gino Borsoi by winning the Valencia season finale.
Izan Guevara, riding for the Blu Cru Pramac Yamaha team, was rewarded for clinching the squad’s inaugural Moto2 victory with an immediate MotoGP test debut.
The opportunity stemmed from a promise made by Pramac Team Principal Gino Borsoi at Sepang: if Guevara secured the team’s first intermediate class victory in the remaining rounds, he would be given a ride on the coveted M1.
Guevara delivered on his side of the bargain, dominating Sunday’s Valencia finale for his first Moto2 win. Yamaha promptly made good on the promise, putting the Spaniard on their inline-powered YZR-M1 during the factory’s private test on Wednesday, where their 2026 MotoGP riders were also conducting V4 development.
“The Power is Incredible”
Guevara, who rode a bike usually piloted by Jack Miller, was visibly thrilled after the test, highlighting the raw power of the premier-class machine.
“I am so thankful to Yamaha for giving me the opportunity to try the M1,” Guevara said. “Jumping on a MotoGP bike is a goal for anyone who wants to become a professional rider, and being able to live this experience is truly a dream come true.”
He spoke highly of the bike’s capability: “The power of this bike is incredible. I was really surprised by the acceleration. Even before changing gears, I could feel there was still more power to come, which is impressive. The feeling in the corners was fantastic; the bike is smooth and easy to handle.”
“On the straight, I truly realised just how much power it has and what it must be like to manage that for a full race. I had so much fun! A sincere thank you to Yamaha, and also to Jack for lending me his bike and his crew.”
Borsoi Praises Guevara’s Rapid Adaptation
While no lap times were released, Pramac Yamaha director Gino Borsoi confirmed that Guevara demonstrated top-tier adaptability.
“Izan is the first Blu Cru rider to try a MotoGP bike, and once again he showed his talent,” Borsoi stated. “He completed two runs of five laps each, demonstrating how quickly he can adapt to the bike and manage the braking points. This opportunity came from a bet I made with him in Malaysia to give him some extra motivation.”
“After winning the Valencian GP, today he received his reward. I hope this experience gives him even more motivation as we look ahead to the 2026 season.”
Guevara now joins fellow 2025 Moto2 riders Manuel Gonzalez (who tested for Trackhouse Aprilia) and new champion Diogo Moreira (who debuted with LCR Honda) in getting a taste of MotoGP this year. While Moreira moves up to the premier class, both Gonzalez and Guevara will remain in Moto2 for the 2026 season.
