Jorge Martin has praised Marc Marquez’s 2025 MotoGP season as “one of the greatest comebacks in the history of sports,” calling the Ducati star a “big example” as Martin battles back from his own injury woes.
Despite Martin taking his number one plate from Pramac to Aprilia after Marquez was chosen to join Francesco Bagnaia at Ducati Lenovo, Martin’s title defence was effectively over before it began. Injuries sidelined him for pre-season testing and then ten of the first eleven rounds.
The Spaniard later confessed he feared for his life following the Qatar accident, before getting embroiled in a contractual dispute with Aprilia over the 2026 season.
Now fit and committed to Aprilia, Martin draws deep inspiration from Marquez, who is on the cusp of his first world title since 2019 after enduring years of arm surgeries and crippling bouts of diplopia.
“For sure, it’s one of the greatest comebacks in the history of sports,” Martin told MotoGP.com. “For me, I have to say it’s a big example.”
“Because coming from where I come, being champion, then getting injured, I think having his example can help me to go back to winning.”
“It’s a historic season, so congrats to Marc.”
Martin and Marquez were photographed sitting beside each other during the delayed 2025 ‘class photo,’ a poignant contrast to the empty space where Martin’s RS-GP should have been during the opening round photo shoot in Thailand.
Martin Sees “Great Step” Forward at Misano
Martin is still pursuing his first podium of the year, with a season-best finish of fourth at Balaton Park. However, he left the Misano test with renewed optimism after making significant progress with a revised handlebar position.
He cautioned, however, that there is still a long road ahead before he can join teammate Marco Bezzecchi as an RS-GP race winner.
“In the test we did a great step in terms of performance and also I’m much more comfortable on the bike,” he explained.
“So let’s see if that work pays off here. For sure, it is still a long journey until we go back to winning, but I think it can be a good race. Not only this one, but also the upcoming races can be really, really good for me.”
